Hello
PHEMTA is the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine Trainees’ Association – a group run by trainees, for trainees.
We exist to support everyone on the PHEM journey, from curious applicants to seasoned trainees preparing for FIMC. Our aim is to connect trainees across the UK, share useful resources, promote educational opportunities, and provide a collective voice for trainees within the wider PHEM community.
Whether you're after advice, inspiration, or just a sense of belonging – you’re in the right place
what do we do?
PHEMTA is more than just a support network – we’re an active voice within the national PHEM community, working to represent and advocate for the needs of trainees across the UK.
Our work spans several key areas:
Representation
We ensure that trainee perspectives are heard at a national level by sitting on key committees and working groups. These include:
-
The IBTPHEM assessment, training and curriculum committees, where we contribute to decisions shaping the structure and standards of PHEM training
-
The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Executive Committee, where we help influence broader developments in the specialty
-
The EMTA-PHEMTA Professional Advisory Group (PAG), where we collaborate with our Emergency Medicine colleagues to support dual trainees and maintain alignment with EM training priorities.
Education and exam preparation
PHEMTA coordinates national training events specifically designed to prepare trainees for the DIMC and FIMC examinations.
These sessions are run by senior trainees and faculty, focusing on the unique challenges of pre-hospital assessments and supporting each other to succeed.
Survey and data collection
Every year, we run and analyse the PHEMTA National Trainee Survey to gather feedback on training experiences across regions.
This data is shared with IBTPHEM and training leads to help drive improvements in education, supervision, and trainee wellbeing.
Annual Conference (coming 2025)
We’re excited to launch the PHEMTA Conference in 2025 – a new event designed by and for trainees.
The conference will be a platform to share learning, showcase research and innovation, and bring our trainee community together for collaboration and connection.
Through all of this, our mission remains simple: to support, represent, and empower PHEM trainees.
